Our Specialty Blends

.

Cabernet/Merlot – 40% Cabernet, 60% Merlot

Cabernet’s complexity when blended with the Merlot grape creates a softer and more subtle Cabernet.

Super Tuscan – 80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet

Sunset Hills own special blend. Similar to the great Italian Super Tuscan, we have added some Merlot grapes to slightly soften the powerful Sangioivese and Cabernet grapes.

Meritage – 33% Cabernet, 33% Merlot, 33% Zinfandel

A Sunset Hill favorite! This is simply a combination of 3 world class grapes. The early maturing characteristics of the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes yields a spectacular wine.

Brunello – 80% Brunello (Sangiovese Grosso), 20% Nebolia

Brunello is a clone of the Sangiovese grape and produces a very fine, long lived wine that is dominated by dark “brownish” fruity flavors.

Single Varietal Red

.

Merlot

In French it means “young blackbird,” probably because of its dark-blue color. It produces wine generally with softer tannins, low acid, with higher alcohol content, rounded and more supple than Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruity, full-bodied, with dark color, and characteristics of black currant, cherry, and mint. Drinks well when young.

Cabernet (Bordeaux Style) 80% Cab, 10% Merlot, 10% Cab Franc

Originally from the Bordeaux region of France and now considered the “Jewel” in California’s Crown! This varietal grape produces a medium to full-bodied, densely-colored wine, with a distinctive black currant aroma. Fruity, berry flavor with some pepper. A true Cabernet unblended, is austerely tannin, characterized by the flavor of tea or herbs. Cabernet’s complexity, makes it an excellent varietal for blending.

Petite Sirah

A Big Red Wine, flavorful and bold. A dark, dry, full bodied, and tannic red with intense berry flavor. A good choice with well seasoned meals such as grilled meats and stews.

Red Zinfandel

A rich , dark, full bodied wine.  A medium to high tannin level with slightly higher alcohol content with a hint of raspberry, blackberry, cherry, plums, raisins, spice and blackpepper all wrapped around various intensities of oak.

White Wines

.

Chardonnay

This premier California varietal grape yields a full-bodied, moderately acidic, dry austere wine that is magnificent with “light” foods, including rich cream sauces, or with fruit or cheese.

Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio originated from France’s Alsace region. This varietal can produce soft, gently perfumed wine, with more substance and color than most whites. Styles vary from crisp, light and dry, to rich, fat and honeyed.
